Introduction to ESL Programs Helping People. Changing Lives. |
||
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program and Services at the Language Arts Education Center (L.A.E.C.) is designed to meet the needs of adult English language learners whose native language is not English. The center offers a variety of ESL courses and support services to help adults succeed academically and participate in the English-speaking communities. The Adult ESL curriculum, (for beginning, intermediate and advance students) focuses on critical daily-life vocabulary and idioms and standard useful grammar. It also teaches the phonics and pronunciation necessary to be understood when speaking English. Students benefit greatly from this course by increasing their knowledge of language-centered American culture through the use of level and age-appropriate materials and mixed media. Students gain practical reading, writing, listening and verbal communication skills that provide them with independence and improve the integration into their communities. |
The Language Arts Education Center focuses on the following English Language (ESL) Programs: • Adult ESL classes (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) • Family ESL Literacy Program • Workplace and Life Skills Program • Citizenship & Immigration Preparation Classes (ESL/Civics) • GED (General Educational Development) Preparation |
